I bought this game on Steam, and it worked just fine when playing offline. I logged close to 24 hours of play without any issues. So I decided to create a Triumph account, because it apparently increases functionality. I did so, and linked it to my Steam account. However, when I attempted to launch the game, I got the following error message:

Error loading profile! Make sure you run the game using the Launcher. If it still doesn’t work then you profile might be corrupted. Delete .APD and .APS file in the profile folder.

I tried basically everything to attempt to fix this. First of all, this was via the launcher, so that was likely not the problem. Secondly, I deleted the .APS file in the profile folder. There was no .APD file, presumably because the game simply did not launch. After this, I would get no error messages at all when attempting to start the game. It would simply just attempt to start, and then exit. Running it in debug mode merely reproduced the error message.

I tried playing offline with the guest account again, and it didn’t work. I had the same issue where the game would just exit. Deleting my Triumph profile folder altogether didn’t help, either. I had the same problem. I renamed the AoW3 profile folder, relaunched the game, and attempted to play with the guest account. That worked, when it created all the settings anew. Trying to play with my Triumph account just broke it again, though.

Incidentally, in my original AoW3 profile folder, when I deleted my Triumph profile folder, the game would start in debug mode, but not in the regular mode. In debug mode, the game will start in the guest account, but if my Triumph profile folder exists, then the game will not start at all. (Or perhaps it’s more accurate to say that it exits upon startup.)

Anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion that my decision to go non-ASCII in creating my Triumph username has caused some sort of issue. Whether it’s on Triumph’s end or Steam’s end, I really don’t know. Steam doesn’t seem to like accented characters at all, but I don’t see why that should matter.

Anyway, here’s the difference between the launcher records from when the game worked and when it didn’t. This is all at the end of the records after STATE [Ready].

    [12:58:08]Storing settings
    [12:58:12]STATE [Play]
    [12:58:12]Profile saved..

    [12:58:12]STATE [Exit]
    [12:58:12]

And when it didn’t work, the file ended with:

    [13:01:37]STATE [UnpackUserContent]
    [13:01:37]STATE [CreateArchives]
    [13:01:37]STATE [LoadUserContent]

    [13:01:43][INFO][LobbyClient][CON1]Disconnected (54.229.188.129:48035)
    [13:01:43]

The log file generated in the second case looked like this:

    [13:01:43]UserPath set to: \Users\user\Library\Application Support\AoW3\
    [13:01:43]Build Number: 17206 – Build Time: 2015-09-16 11:21:45 -STEAM BUILD

So I don’t know what to do. Some help would be appreciated. In case it’s somehow relevant, I’m running the game on a 13-inch mid-2012 MacBook Pro, with a 2.9 GHz i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, and an Intel HD 4000 graphics card with 1536 MB VRAM.

Oh. And I’ve just noticed that my username on the forum doesn’t show up with the accented character, either. I should have learned my lesson by now, but apparently, I keep hoping that the world will be Unicode-compliant at some point, or even just have support for the extended Latin character set. Evidently, the data from Triumph’s servers register the accented ó, even if this forum doesn’t, though, because if I try logging in using an unaccented o, it tells me that I’m using an invalid username.

Hi there, sorry for the troubles.

Extended Latin character set should work for Windows, but you are the first to report this not working, its probably related to MacOS. It might not display correctly on the website, but this probably a wordpress or database to website related thing.

    As noted in the log
[13:01:43]OpenProcess: -profile “Valinóriel” -no_registration (null) Create process succeeded..

The game understands the accented ó, but with the next step it seems to fail creating a map on MacOs with your username the accented ó . We need to look into this why this is happening.

For now, shall I rename your account to Valinoriel ?

You need to delete your profile directory then so the game can start normally .

Yes please. I think you may be right about the Mac OS encoding thing. The profile folder is created properly with the accented character, but there’s probably something somewhere in the chain that fails to understand something. If you could just rename my account as you’ve offered, that’d be lovely. Dank U!

I’ve renamed your account to: Valinoriel

Don’t forget to delete your old profile directory (or rename it to BACKUP or something!)

    Alstublieft 🙂

    Hi Arnout,

I have a similar issue (MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite), getting this message when starting from the launcher:

“Error loading profile! Make sure you run the game using the Launcher. If it still doesn’t work then you profile might be corrupted. Delete .APD and .APS file in the profile folder.”

Firstly, I have neither .APD or . APS files, I’ve uninstalled and downloaded the game again. But that didn’t work either. No idea what to do now, I’d just like to play some more.

    Please help?

    Hello darthmael,

I suspect that you did not look in the right place for the .APD and .APS files. Could be wrong, but I’ll tell you where to look regardless.

    1. Open Finder
    2. Open ‘Go to folder’: [Cmd] + [Shift] + [G]
    3. Enter: ~/Library/Application Support/AoW3/Profiles
    4. Click ‘Go’

Now you are in the AoW3 profiles folder.

    5. Rename the profile folder that matches the name of your account to ‘BACKUP’.
    6. Use the launcher to log in again.

The profile folder will be regenerated. Note that your save games, option settings, etc. are not present in this newly generated profile. Only thing you can retrieve is your save games, by manually copying this from the BACKUP folder to the newly generated profile folder.

    Hello Lascha,
    first thanks for your post.
I did all the steps but the game still not launching.
    I’am also on Mac.

    Any idea?
When I click play on the launcher I can see “synchronisation” been canceled next to the AoW3’s title in my Steam library… I don’t know if it can help, but I don’t know what to say anymore..

    Thanks a lot

    Hello Mage-G,

The problem is that the game does not understand which account you try to log in with. Normally, the launcher tries to tell the game, but in this case that is not getting through, and I can’t say why – as I cannot reproduce this here.

How I came to this conclusion:

    1. The launcher log starts the game with ‘Mage-G’ as login parameter, which is good
[19:20:22]OpenProcess: -profile “Mage-G” -no_registration (null) Create process succeeded..

    2. When the game starts, it tries to start it without an account, which is not what I would have expected
    [19:20:43]SignIn parameter: (null)

    It should have been:
    [19:20:43]SignIn parameter: “Mage-G”

So the issue seems to be a different issue than the one described in the first post. I do not know a fix for that, but I can give you an un-official workaround that might help!

    1. Open Finder
    2. Open ‘Go to folder’: [Cmd] + [Shift] + [G]
    3. Enter: ~/Library/Application Support/AoW3/
    4. Click ‘Go’
    5. Make a new folder named ‘Config’, so path is: ~/Library/Application Support/AoW3/Config/
    6. Make a new file in the ‘Game.cfg’, so path is: ~/Library/Application Support/AoW3/Config/Game.cfg
    7. Open this file with program ‘TextEdit’
    8. In this file, write: DEBUG_PROFILE=Mage-G
    9. Save the file. Make sure the extension is .cfg and not .cfg.txt or something. To validate this:
9.1 Right click on the file.
    9.2 Click ‘Get Info’
9.3 In the ‘Name & Extension’ area make sure it says: Game.cfg
    10. Try starting the game now.

Strange, usually that does the trick. Might be a external program interfering with the game perhaps.

I’m tired of another attempt to start the game. After registering the account and clicking “play”, the following message appears: Failed to save the profile, maybe the hard disk is full. I’ll wait a few days for support. If it fails, it will uninstall the game and write about you on the game portals, as well as the crap apps you are doing.

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with starting the game.

An external ‘something’ is blocking the game from writing to your \Documents\AoW3 map. This is not a problem with game, but for example an Anti-Virus program that interfering with Steam and or the game. More info
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

There also is a new feature in Windows 10 Defender “Ransom protection”. if this is turned on this might also cause the problem. If you white-list the game and Launcher executables the problem should be solved.

I don’t know how can I do that, I’m not technician too much, sorry mate. I just uninstall the game and foget it. No offence, man.
