3    Trouble Shooting

3.1    My game crashes on Start Up when running on my laptop.
If you are running on a laptop then it is likely that the game has selected your integrated graphics chipset as the default graphics processor. This could give problems because that chipset may not have the video memory necessary to start the game; the minimum required video memory is 512MB. To fix this you need to manually switch to your dedicated graphics processor.
For NVIDIA:
1.    Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2.    Select “Manage 3D settings”.
3.    In the “Preferred graphics processor” drop-down menu, select your NVIDIA processor.

3.2    My game crashes after a while
If you are running on a 32-bit system then it could be that you have run out of memory. Age of Wonders III can require more memory in certain situations like transitioning to and from combat, and 32-bit systems can have some problems coping with it when a lot of applications are open.
There are several things that you can do:

  • Before starting Age of Wonders III, close unnecessary applications and services that you have running in the background to free up memory for use by the game. Especially closing Browsers and even Instant Messengers like Skype will help as they require a lot of system RAM.
  • Set the Texture quality on Low in the graphics tab of the Launcher. This will cause the textures to look more blurry, but will reduce the amount of memory the game needs to run.
  • On Windows there is also a way to enable additional memory, but this only works if you have 3GB RAM or more in your PC  (note: this changes your OS configuration and doing so is at your own risk)
  1. Right click on “C:\Windows\cmd.exe”.
  2. Click on “Run as administrator”.
  3. In the console window, type: bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072 and press enter.
  4.  Restart the system

If you have any other crash we would like to hear about it. See here on how to report a crash.

3.3    Why is the game not playing any sound?
It sometimes occurs that when a new playback device gets connected to your PC the game will not recognize that device while the game is running. To fix this you should make sure that the device is properly connected, and then restart the game.

3.4    I cannot link my Triumph Account to my Steam Account.
The ‘Link To STEAM Account’ button in the Age of Wonders III Game’s Launcher is greyed out.
In rare occasions it could be that you’re not ‘properly’ logged into steam. This is fixed by:

  1. Log-out of steam (not just restart. really logout: Steam -> Change User)
  2. Exit steam
  3. Login again with your steam account into Steam
  4. Start Age of Wonders and try again in Game’s Launcher

3.5 Random Game Crashes
Some Anti-Virus Programs run the game in a “sandbox”. This will limit the resources to the game and might crash the game. To fix this, please unblock or allow Age of Wonders III exes in your Anti-virus program.

4  Multiplayer Trouble Shooting

4.1    When attempting to play multiplayer I get a “Cannot Connect to Server” error
Please see the networking setup guide.

4.2  Can I play online with a Guest account?
You cannot play Online Multiplayer using the Guest account. Please login with your Triumph Account to play the game online.

4.3  How do I play Hot Seat?
On the title screen, select Random Map or a Custom Scenario
Set the turns option from “Simultaneous Turns” to “Classic Turns”
Set at least two players to “Human”
And Start the Game

5     Level Editor

5.1    How do I launch the Age of Wonders III Editor?
Launch the game and in the Launcher select the miscellaneous-tab and then click the ‘Age of Wonders III Editor’ button. The level editor is currently only supported on Windows.

5.2    I am having issues with the level editor and/or user created maps. What should I do?
Please note that Level Editing Tools are provided as a courtesy to fans. They might have different system specifications from Age of Wonders III, are not tech supported and have an English only interface. Also be aware that user created levels may push your (or that of other players) system to its limits, for example when there are very big maps, or when a lot of objects are placed in a small area.

Of course when you encounter a major bug in the level editor, then you are free to report it to the support forums.
