Upcoming Beta & Mac/Linux Update

This is an announcement that we’ll have a public Steam Beta for the Update/Patch 1.5 in a couple of weeks. This free update will launch officially together with the upcoming expansion. It will be loaded with new features such as Diplomatic AI profiles, overhauled diplomatic relations and you’ll be able to test the awesome new PBEM mode.  (PBEM is now the most played game mode here at the office!).

Also Lascha has been making great progress on the conversions; the Mac and Linux versions of the game are now nearing completion.  We hope to have both these versions ready to drop together with the Beta of Update 1.5 on Steam, to launch together with the new expansion.

We could really help use your help to test Mac Linux, PBEM and V1.5 on as many systems as possible!

Watch this space for details!

I’m willing to do a bit of testing on Linux, but I’m not sure how Steam works: I already have AOW3 running on Windows, if I were to install Steam on my Linux drive would I be able to install a copy there as well or would I need to buy a second copy of the game (plus expansions) to be able to play?

If you download and install steam on Linux and log on with your profile, you should be able to download AOW3 to that PC too.

Cool, that makes things pretty easy to do some testing then 🙂

And good to see this game becoming playable on Linux and Mac soon. There are quite a few Mac owners and people who refuse to install Windows, so I hope this will bring in some extra sales for you! Any chance you could get some coverage of the game on Mac/Linux gaming sites?

Wait a second, “This is an announcement that we’ll have a public Steam Beta for the Update/Patch 1.5 in a couple of weeks. This free update will launch officially together with the upcoming expansion.”

So does this mean that the expansion will be out in a couple of weeks? So excited. =D

The final release of v1.5, not the beta 🙂

No, it means that the official release of the update, not the beta which goes up in a couple of weeks, will release alongside the expansion.

I know it’s unrealistic, I’d love a Android phone conversion, even if you made a deal with say the company that converted Baldur’s Gate to Android phones.

I can definitely volunteer for testing on Mac.

I bought the PC version although I couldn’t play it (except for a few sessions on my friends PC) – I have been waiting for almost a year to see this on Mac!!!

    Please keep us updated.

Anyone knows if there will be one or two new campaigns in the upcoming expansion?

You don`t get Developer comms like this much with other games nowadays. I worry when it all might stop like with some other ‘once good’ devs.

I play on a PC. Will I be able to play a multiplayer game with my brother if he is playing on his mac?

    #159556

Everything I’ve been waiting for! Awesome. I’d second that question above – is PBEM cross-platform?

That is great news! Thank you! We used to play AoW 1 and 2 multiplayer, can´t wait to play AoW3 with him.

    “awesome new PBEM mode.”

So I have a quick question about the PBEM, I know that the turn modes are for like longer games and that is just awesome, but will it help reduce the graphical issues some peeps have that slow the game down cause either there internet ping is to high or that there computer can’t handle all the moving parts on the map cause of an outdated graphic card or what not (no money to buy an upgrade, with the economy and all), so I was just wondering if there could be away to have an option in the game menu to toggle on/off all of the motions that take place in the game so that it doesn’t take a heavy hit to the graphics and will be able to run the game more smoother on some older computers. =D That way my other friends will be able to play, cause they turned away from this game because of that issue, so i’m hoping some one may know away around this or hopefully Triumph can implement a toggle option into the game. =D That would be awesome, Thanks from one of your biggest fans. =D

    great news!

I’m very much looking forward to playing this on the mac. Right now I’m forced to play via a VM on my Macbook, so I’m looking forward to some native support.

The PBEM mode is also very interesting, I cannot wait to see how this will play out 🙂
