Anybody knows some really good mod/ scenario related with “Middle Earth/ Lotr” story we can download from steam?
I downloaded some “Middle Earth 2 rebalanced” scenario – but maybe there is a new map of Middle Earth i didnt find there units from world of LOTR.
I also downloaded another map which is named “Middle Earth 2” created by user “Nemesis”
As i guess after checking all possibilities – this is all we have about Middle Earth? Nothing better?April 8, 2017 at 09:44 #251640
The latest I found was v3, check that post: https://steamcommunity.com/app/226840/discussions/0/133261370004062967/
And maybe share your experience there, it will be useful to more people there than here I think.April 8, 2017 at 10:53 #251645
Thanks!! I remember that many of years ago somebody created great scenario with AOW I or II in world of LOTR. It was something that was incredible and should be adopted by AOW creators as separate DLC (there were all main heroes from LOTR, units, map, plots etc). Something great. I do not expect that i will find something similiar but maybe there is something better then i found till now.
Will check! Thanks again!April 10, 2017 at 10:11 #251709
Checked. But very also this newest map is very poor. Nothing similiar to this one:
I don’t know why Triumph Studios didnt ask creator to officialy implement this mod to AOW game. This mod was indeed like complete DLC. There was even something like storyline there and it was much more better then this one in “Eternal Lords”.
I remember that Tower of Saruman was absolutely hard or even impossible to be conquered, as we could attack only by one army and he was defended by 2 or 3 very strong armies. But if we got Army od Death fast we could improve them to veteran status and they had teleportation ability and then we didnt have to fight – only teleport 2-3 dead knights and kill Saruman – then battle was over.
Also Balrog was incredible strong. But Gandalf had graet bonus when fought with him. This was most awesome scenario in all AOW world that was ever created.April 10, 2017 at 17:42 #251752
Hi michal21112, apart from the fact that you can hardly critisize the devs for not creating a world and story comparable to the godfather of all modern classical fantasy stories there is one big problem when trying to bring lotro content to AoW3: The two just don’t match very well! AoW2 was the perfect setup for middle earth scenarios. There was the good vs evil theme, many of the required fantasy races and magic behaved much more like you’d expect it to work in middle earth. AoW3 however doesn’t offer that setting. It has evolved from a classical black and white fantasy game to a game without inherently good or evil races and leaders with different ideologies rather than just different magic spheres. Therefore if you want to pair AoW3 with lotro you would have to either sacrifize a good part of the immersion you’d expect from a middle earth scenario (or mod) or some of the fundamental AoW3 features (namely classes). Addititionaly thanks to 3D it has become much more difficult to add units with completely new visuals to the game.
So while the thought of an extensive lotro mod / map may be appealing at first, it loses a lot of its attraction when you start to weight the gain against the necessary effort.April 11, 2017 at 09:09 #251779
No, both AOW 2 and AOW 3 had the same enviroment to create LOTR world. The difference is just that somebody (or some team) did something beyond expectations and created all LOTR units, charactes, events to unblock heroes etc. Somebody even thought what could happen if particular units met other special unit. Initial creation in AOW 3 Middle Earth scenario was very similiar. Just author (what is understandable) of Middle Earth scenario for AOW 3 didnt have so much time to make similiar work as author of this AOW 2 LOTR mod.
So i think that AOW 2 LOTR mod will be best strategy in LOTR world for many next years. Or maybe it will be even never replaced by anything similiar.
I still cannot belive that somebody created this scenario for AOW 2 just as fan of Tolkien books, not as full professional.

Well you have my arguments why I think AoW3 and lotr don’t fit well together in my post above so I am not going to repeat them.
Though of course this doesn’t take away the merit of the AoW2 mod you’ve linked (which I never had the joy to try out since I never came across it before).April 12, 2017 at 09:36 #251808
I tried yesterday (I played it many years ago). Still awesome as concept of game. But graphic of AOW II is unfortunatelly so old that its rather unplayable in 2017.
