If Icon importing makes it to the mod tools, I’ll draw you a sardine
August 21, 2015 at 14:11 #223584Nice!
And, what does this mean regarding game balance? Are you guys still going to patch the core-game?
Or in other words, should people stop talking in the Balance Suggestions Sub-Forum?

that should be some points on the Overlords alliance list, you should be warned tough Lord Tibbles, I am very critical about my sardines.
August 21, 2015 at 14:13 #223586Excellent news. Does pretty well confirm that we’re unlikely to get any further expansions, but modding tools are an excellent trade off.

or you could see it as an stream of endless small expansions made by all the great members of our fair community. and they are free.
August 21, 2015 at 14:16 #223589Please add ipv6 support.

No, please keep discussing balance. We’ll still do changes where needed, since the game should be well balanced without mods.
However, now you can go and make balance tweaks we don’t do. You might even convince us of making a change official if everyone ends up using a specific balance mod : )>
August 21, 2015 at 14:28 #223592Santa Claus is coming, to town!
August 21, 2015 at 14:31 #223593So, who wants to make an AoW mod with me, to include the AoW campaign?
August 21, 2015 at 14:39 #223595YEEEESSSS!
Underground Dungeon Dwelling, here we go!
Straight question:
Will it be possible, for example, to mod in a full Dwelling IN ADDITION to the existing ones (or would we have to change an existing one)?
Same question for new Classes and Races …
August 21, 2015 at 14:51 #223598Generally, if you can edit something in the mods then you’ll also be able to add new versions of it. Adding new races and classes will be very hard though, since there’s such a ton of different pieces of data that go together to make them.
Anyways, we’re going to be investigating exactly what can and cannot be achieved with modding over the next few weeks. For now, we’re not going to be able to provide specific answers to questions like “Can I do X, Y and Z?” since we don’t actually know for sure without trying it out for ourselves.
August 21, 2015 at 15:05 #223601Mooing support? Sweet.
August 21, 2015 at 15:06 #223602Cool!
Yeah, sure, new Races/Classes will be a ton of work – but I guess the creation of an alternative Elven race (as in, the Dark one) or mixing a couple of units in, won’t be as difficult as that.
Anyway. Can’t wait to try out a couple of ideas.
August 21, 2015 at 15:07 #223603I’m sad that we won’t get any more expansions, but excited to see what we could get from the community. SM had a number of community additions that rivalled the base game in enjoyment level.
I also wonder what sort of demo mods Tombles and crew might put together…
EDIT: shame we can’t expect new models or textures. The former I’m ok with (I doubt we’d see many people able to model and animate said model up to the standards of the base game), but the latter is sad since it could have been great to export the current skin, modify it and reinsert it for use with a different unit using the same base model
EDIT2: @tombles, I know what you just said, but do you know if it’s possible to at least apply tinting or shaders to a model to change it’s colouration? Or am I to expect a slew of “dark elf” mods that look exactly the same as the high elves?

I’m not a GFX coder, but I’ve added multiplicative colour shifting to figures and structures so you can change their colours to a limited degree. I can’t do much more, because otherwise I’d need to start changing all the different shaders and everything and I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
August 21, 2015 at 15:39 #223611I’m happy for modding tools and all, but does that really means the end of Official Expansions/DLCs releases?
August 21, 2015 at 15:43 #223613I am sad.
The release of the mod tools mean that there will be no further Expansion. 🙁August 21, 2015 at 16:03 #223615What is all this gnashing of teeth about no more expansions? I mean, given it’s been more than a year since release I guess we probably won’t see many more expansions for this game (I hope maybe one more), but how is this related to the modding stuff? is it something the devs said?

I believe they had mentioned with the last expansion that it would be the last or something along those lines. Apologies I don’t have the exact quote. But generally yes, giving us all the tools to mod our own expansions means it’s likely they’re moving on to another project. (Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, but I do love AoW3.)
August 21, 2015 at 16:25 #223625/Rant begins
I have to express disappointment, although not surprise, at some of the negative reactions here.
People automatically assuming that this means no more expansions…That may or may not be true, but from my understanding, these will be very capable mod tools so really people you should be REJOICING.
Certain among you dislike Warbreeds, for aesthetic reasons, as an example. Now you can change them, if I understand the original post correctly.
There are probably hundreds of whines people have had that they can now potentially address themselves, yet somehow people find it in themselves to be negative.
Bah, Internet.
/Rant ends.
August 21, 2015 at 16:38 #223627To add to the above, a frequent concern about the game is T4’s – if I interpret the news post correctly, it’s literally going to be child’s play to turn off T4’s, Stalkers, and Class Ultimates.
As to recreate AoW1…..count me in.
August 21, 2015 at 16:49 #223628Mother of gods *takes off shades*
August 21, 2015 at 17:24 #223630Wow, awesome news! But I hope that you will give us something to extract and repack the textures, it shouldn’t be so hard I think, otherwise the creation of new units will be a bit limited.
And please make another expansion;).
August 21, 2015 at 18:02 #223634Please if possible allow:
1. Modification of RG Upgrades
2. Modification, Addition and removal of techs
3. Modification, Addition and removal of abilities (e.g. overwhelm, inflict x)
4. Modification of Structures and City Buildings, also if possible addition of these but I guess that is way more difficult.
5. Modification of specializations
6. Modification of Leader/Hero units
7. I assume you already would, but if not – please make the modification of existing units an option.August 21, 2015 at 18:18 #223636So, who wants to make an AoW mod with me, to include the AoW campaign?
I’m game. I’ve been wanting to remake maps from the older games for a while, but the long delay in upgrading to 64-bit has thrown a wrench into that. Hopefully it should finally happen.
August 21, 2015 at 19:02 #223645Nice!!! Now guys create great mods for us who don´t have the time!!! I am still waiting for more official stuff though.
August 21, 2015 at 19:06 #223646I’m happy for modding tools and all, but does that really means the end of Official Expansions/DLCs releases?
Yeah, I wonder that as well. Hopefully, there is some ultimate expansion coming in the near/not-so-distant future. If not, I would not mind smaller (new) mechanics-changing/adding (possibly with a few scenarios) pieces of DLC. One way or another, let’s just hope the devs are not yet finished with the game in terms of new content…
August 21, 2015 at 19:43 #223648A bit disappointing. For all the hype about how great mod tools will be released eventually, allowing players to do whatever we want… we get the ability to change stats. No new textures or models means nothing NEW, and it sounds like we won’t be able to change mechanics systems either (no implementing accuracy, changing ranged damage falloff, changing morale, etc).
