Guin Saga (グイン・サーガ, Guin Sāga?) is a best-selling heroic fantasy novel series by the Japanese author Kaoru Kurimoto, in continuous publication since 1979. A record 100 volumes were originally planned, but the final total stands at 130 volumes, the last four published posthumously, with 21 side-story novels. She was working on the 130th volume of Guin Saga up until 23 May 2009, after which point she became too ill to write. After the 100th book in the series was published in 2005, an event to celebrate this was held in Tokyo, with 600 attending. Guin Saga is the longest continuing single-writer’s work in the world with total circulation exceeding 28 million worldwide. The main story of Guin Saga, will resume on November 8, four years after the passing of the original author. Yū Godai will publish Volume 131 Parro no Ankoku on that date, followed by Yume Yohino’s Volume 132 Cylon no Banka in December.

On April 12, 2005, Micott & Basara (Japanese investors) announced plans to create an anime based on Guin Saga. In October 2008 more details surfaced which revealed Atsushi Wakabayashi is directing the anime, while famous video game composer Nobuo Uematsu is creating the score. This is Uematsu’s first full soundtrack for an anime, and Wakabayashi’s first directing role. Animation production will be handled by Satelight and the background art by Studio Easter. The anime debuted on April 5, 2009. On April 3, 2009 an English-dubbed trailer was posted on the anime’s official website. On May 7, 2010, North American anime licensor Sentai Filmworks announced that they have acquired the series. Sentai, along with distributor Section23 Films release part one of the series on DVD on March 29, 2011. Section23 had previously announced a Blu-ray release, but had been postponed indefintly. Recently, Sentai Filmworks has announced a release of a complete Guin Saga BD Set encompassing the entire series. This set was released on May 8, 2012.

The anime uses two pieces of theme music. “Theme of Guin” (グインのテーマ, Guin no Tēma?) by Nobuo Uematsu is the series’ opening theme, while “Saga~This is my road” by Kanon is the series’ ending theme. The soundtrack, comprising two CDs, will be released on 24 June 2009.

The anime is expected to adapt the first sixteen volumes of the light novels.

Watched about half of it and was bored to hell. Generally main hero jus walks around getting into random fights. Same kind of anime as Attack on Titan(which is pretty much same) but if you enjoys fights, don’t like talks and don’t care about characters personalities – you may like it. Oh, and i associate hero with King from videogame Tekken(sleepless nights with friends, playing Tekken3, ah, memories).

Maybe in manga, but in anime they didn’t move a story at all during 26 series. I wuold understand it if it where some 100+ series like Naruto, Bleach, One piece or Fairy tail, but one whole season only to show how’s things going at the start of story ? No, thank you.

“Guin Saga” – nice when the army human invades location populated beastmen’s (canyons, deserts). There’s a good battle armies. Good tricks.

“Attack on Titan” – read manga. But then frozen. It has good characters Mikasa, Krista, Sasha, Ymir and Annie (manga very interesting reveal their). Good intrigue. Many sides of the conflict. Many empathize. Anime turned in something better in something confusing. Manga has gone much further ahead (just after the anime, just after ~30 chapter is the most fun).

And what do you think about these long stories:

Didn’t watched them, although they on my “plan to watch” list.
But i watched “Records of Lodoss wars” http://myanimelist.net/anime/206/Lodoss-tou_Senki:_Eiyuu_Kishi_Den
and “Those who hunt elves” http://myanimelist.net/anime/1045/Elf_wo_Karu_Mono-tachi, http://myanimelist.net/anime/1046/Elf_wo_Karu_Mono-tachi_II and can recommen them as really good titles(“elf hunters” more of a comedy though).

    Watched them.
    Lodoss reminded me of this:
    http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=470
Lodoss I passed as a game on Dreamcast. Anime was later.

“Those who hunt elves” – very funny thing.
    p.s. I can advise “funny + echchi (18+ !!!) + fantasy” manga:
    http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/gate-thus-the-jsdf-fought-there-r5353
    http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/drifters-r759
They are very popular. Only they – very adult. There are many violent scenes.

Go watch a real anime like Yuru Yuri, Sora no Woto, Aria, Strike Witches or K-ON!. None of this entry-level crap.

The new season rich in good things.

“Hitsugi no Chaika” – very good adventure.
“No Game No Life” – crazy thing.
“Sidonia no Kishi” – remind “The Sky Crawlers”, anime about life (look angle “senseless war” – humanity punished for use of dangerous technologies (a new type of radiation \ rays, but it was he who attracted the monsters in the Earth and spaceships)), arthouse, fantastic.
p.s. “Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: A War in the Pocket” and “Armored Trooper Votoms” – also good anti-war stuff (what is better “Sidonia no Kishi”).

“Hitsugi no Chaika” – very good adventure.

So far this anime is quite interesting, but I don’t like the ‘harem’-esque situation the MC is gradually thrown into.
If I should predict the future of the anime I’d wager 4 more different Chaikas appear in the storyline and then all 6 ‘lust’ (Well, Chaika no. 1 doesn’t really, but the red one srsly does) after our MC.

AND the ‘I like Yoda talking’-way of speakin sometimes gets annoying.

You know that there is a second season in October this year?
And despite the fact that the film adaptation is very fast. There are 24 chapters of manga translation:
    http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/hitsugi-no-chaika-r2336
24 chapter = a little less than the first 4 series anime. There will be about 24 series (1-2 season). All can be very intriguing.

Here harem level “Full Metal Panic!”. I would not do this great tragedy. The more minor characters have potential couples (big guy from the team of red Chaika and white Chaika, a gentleman and a girl with daggers from the state office of postwar reconstruction).
Emergence of a large number of seagulls – absolutely not predictable. We have already said that a lot of them “have been caught or committed suicide”. Enter the anime story of new 2-3 Chaika – do not know whether to do it (I do not know ranobe and other author’s works ranobe, by the fact that I can not judge for the “cockroaches in author head”).

“Selector Infected Wixoss” – copy anime story “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica” in the setting of card games (I usually do not like this anime, it’s too pathetic). Very strange. Made as advertising card game. But the story is more self-sufficient (less direct advertising, more anime story style Madoka).
“Brynhildr in the Darkness” – good drama.
“Black Bullet” – copy anime story “Gunslinger Girl” in the setting of mutants and post-apocalypse.

but I don’t like the ‘harem’

If you do not like the harem, I can offer an excellent adventure anime, which does not have a harem at all (and I’m also a fan of the manga)

    Hunter x Hunter (2011)

There’s very little romance. Unfortunately very few female characters. But a very good combination of fantasy and the modern world. Very nice approach to skills.
