I believe the mystical upgrades are actually in the patch, not the expansion. Don’t take my word on that though.

The wording of the page explicitly mentions them as a “New Golden Realms Feature”

I mean, that could possibly mean they come in the patch, but I think it is more likely that they will not.

    @b0rsuk

I was going to take issue with your comment about the new Blight creatures, thinking specifically that you were talking about the Blight Elemental (Which I quite like the look of and like the idea of Destruction Sphere potentially getting some elemental summons), but then I realised you were referring to the Dread Monkeys etc too. FWIW, I think the disgusting stench aspect of the Dread Monkeys is far more important than the fact that they do damage in the Blight channel. And whilst their effectiveness is limited due to being ocean only, it seems that Mermaids/Sirens will dual channel Frost and physical damage, which is neat (Frost is severely under-utilised)

No love for the Eagle Rider? It makes it, what, the third T3 of seven racial T3s to have flying? And it is such an iconic unit for the Halflings in their past iteration. (I’m actually disappointed that the Sheriff isn’t back, but at least the T1 Nightwatch continue the theme of part of their military being their law enforcement)

@BBB or any other of the testers or the devs

I take it every elemental sphere has likely had an elemental unit added, do Earth and Water get a low tier summon? Is it just a baby version of the normal elementals, or are things like the Water Dancer and Minotaur returning?

lets not forget gods & kings and brave new world introduced significant new gameplay mechanics alongside the other new content.

a new class would be okay for a 30$ expansion but in AOW3 races dont mean that much – i mean halflings are still gonna be played like dreadnoughts, sorcererors, druids, etc …. whereas a new class would open up completely new gameplay for all races.

This says it far better than I did. That’s ultimately my problem with calling this a true expansion instead of DLC. The new features seem like they’ll be fun, but it doesn’t feel like they’ll actually change or expand upon gameplay in any meaningful sense.

That’s not necessarily a problem, new toys are always cool, except that there are some issues that do need fixing (meaningful race and alignment choices). Still, that’s not to give the impression that I don’t love this game. AoW is a very worthy successor to Master of Magic, and I’m excited to see that they’re updating and expanding it!

I’m not saying this expansion should cost €/$ 30. But I think it’s fair to compare it to other modern expansion packs. There’s quite a lot of new game mechanics in there such as empire quests, seals of power and and the mythical city upgrades. That’s really expanding the gameplay in my book. I found the religion add on for Civ V quite dull. BNW was a much better expansion.

Everbody should judge for themselves of course. But I think the new content adds a lot to the game!

Funny thing is, where do people get the 30$/€ price tag from?

The base game was 40€/50$ so why should an Expansion (Yes, I dare call this an Expansion, I’m such an infidel) cost 66% of that?

We should probably postpone this discussion to a point of time AFTER the actual price was announced.

Or in case you don’t want to, let me at least participate: I heard some strong rumors, DLC will not be available under 80-90 € 🙂

Eh? I’m pretty sure I heard it was gonna cost 300$.

Errm….Well, we wanted to approach this amount step by step to make sure there is no big surprise/shock within the community. We would like to keep the halflings very exclusive and pretty much all prices under 300$/€ would ruin that.

    😉

Wasn’t $80-90 just the minimum first installment? I’m pretty sure I heard it was the minimum first installment…

I have good information that there’s only going to be one copy sold, and the $300 number is just the opening bid.

    I don’t know what’s saddest,

You are. Got my thing (finally), so all I can tell you now is to piss off. I don’t read replies because they are mostly filled with your bullcrap, I’d rather not read.

Thanks for sorting things out tho Tombles. Cheers

a bunch of crap nobody cares about.

BBB is a respected member of this community who has done a metric ton of stuff for all us. He’s also probably one of the nicest guys here. If you pissed him off, you better believe its on you. Stop being dumb.

Exactly. A flanking attack with 100% frost weakness, 20% fire weakness and 60% shock weakness and it did only 2+2+2 damage….not a big deal compared to the 31 that the eagle did.

Also I guess the glutton has 40% fire protection and 40% frost weakness.

The Glutton has a base resistance of like 15, and weakness is applied *after* resistance, so 60% fire weakness doesn’t really matter to a glutton that much:

    20 fire damage vs 15 resistance = 5 damage
    5 damage + 60 % weakness = 8 damage

Main reason for degenerate was the for physical weakness.

As someone else said, the Glutton’s main weakness is entangling attacks. A t1 spider has webbing touch, at strength 11. Versus a 8 defense that has a 65% success. It’s neat I think, but could be screwed lore and balance wise. It’s possible we’ll need to make the glutton immune to such effects, I’m not sure.

How about a change log for the patch?

I mean, there are so many balance discussions going that may be obsolete due to the changes made …

I’d exspect a changelog as soon as the patch goes live (Dunno, Changelog on the 14th – 18th, launch on the 18th)

depends on how slick the glutton’s skin is..

But i must say that I like the way it is – weak against certain units, but incredibly strong against others.

Hi folks, regarding the price for the Golden Realms DLC, it will be nowhere near the €/$ 30 Civ expansions. Exact price will be announced soon!

    What a surprise *Sarcasm off*

I’d wager it will most likely be something around 9,99.

Heck, if the base game sold well enouhg I WOULD consider pricing this somewhere between 5,99 and 9,99, tho I don’t know any actual numbers.

    @ Garresh, ignore the idiot.

@ Sorax, I’ll take an official warning too. Worth it to say that:

@ Perq, you are a whiney pointless waste of space. Read some replies sometime, save us all some effort. Hopefully you’ll read this one and follow the instructions, which are to piss off with your bad attitude and self entitlement and go annoy some other people. Hey, all this bullshit about DLC’s costing money. Have you ever concidered development time and budget? You know what those two mean? They decide how much time and money Triumph can put into the game. Now, with the time & budget they had for the development of the game, they created your current gaming experience. THey could literally have done nothing more before the deadline.

Had they tried to stuff in more in races with the same time & budget, you’d have gotten an inferior game both in balance and gameplay. Or you’d have the finished product with 6 races & specialisations. Those are your options.

Enter DLC: With profit of the original game, and more development time now the game has shipped, they can add more races and game mechanics at their leasure. Increasing diversity, replay value and gaming experience in the process.

So have fun with your basic/inferior game. I’ll be slaughtering myself some Halflings.

sooo… when do we get the archons announcement? 😛

Fat chance in that, I’m affraid. They’re undead now and they already have their own Dwelling.

Frostlings and Tigrans would probably be before them.

We want it of course as cheap as possible. But compared to what most companies deliver with their DLCs within the 5-10€ range I think the range of 15-20€ wouldn`t be unfair, the lower in this range the better.

Only in Athla – there’s a good chance living archons remain in the Shadow World (most if not all left Athla after Shadow Magic – once they relinquished their claim and greenlighted the elves to rule as long as they respected the rights of humans, they had more important places to be).

I just watched the youtube video showing this expansion off. And man it does not look like this is an expansion for people who don’t like dice rolls lol. If your like me, and are annoyed by your spells fizzling then your probably not going to want to play a race with dodge rolls, and use magic specialization that will either overpower the crap out of you or lose the fight. That should make auto resolve really interesting/unpredictable though with that race/magic combo. Gonna laugh if it’s banned in some people’s MP games.
