Age of Wonders III is currently on sale on Steam.
– Age of Wonders III base game (or Deluxe) is 50% off
– Age of Wonders III Collection is 33% off
– Eternal Lords Expansion is 20% offI’d wait a bit – these are not the most aggressive deals (especially for the expansions). I’d be shocked if the base game does not for an 8 hour period get a 75% discount.
June 12, 2015 at 22:23 #210686I think this is a game worth paying full price for considering it is still actively supported.
June 12, 2015 at 22:32 #210689Tell your friends. BUY THIS GAME.
I want more awesome and it will only happen if Triumph get lots of sales. ‘
June 13, 2015 at 12:34 #210762If more awesome is truly dependent on Triumph getting more money, then I offer the following:
$1000 for mod tools that includes at minimum:
* race editor,
* class editor,
* specialization editor,
* spell editor,
* hero editor,
* campaign making capabilities,
* ability to expand parameters like hero levels, # of specializations per player, etc.
* import/export tool for 3D models and support for some basic export format from most major modeling tools
* scripting, preferably LUA, can live with PythonI realize not everyone will pay $1000, but make a kickstarter-like campaign off the home page and give some perks to the highest donaters like kickstarter. I don’t mind paying a little more than the next person if it helps get it done faster.
$500 for a 64 bit build that significantly speeds up AI turn length and expands usable memory to at least 8GB
$100 / month for some kind of premium membership that gives mostly superficial perks like weekly live IRC convos with devs, but whose real purpose is to give Triumph residual income to take pressure off sales.
June 13, 2015 at 14:46 #210772You Sir, are comitted! 😀
June 13, 2015 at 15:17 #210777Well if I am to be committed then I offer…
June 13, 2015 at 18:10 #210801$500 for a 64 bit build that significantly speeds up AI turn length and expands usable memory to at least 8GB
64 bit is by far the biggest – that, and as you’ve noted the need for modding tools.

i m with you there =( . probably not $1000 but i d seriously consider something in the $300 – $500 region for proper modtools like you outlined above.
for me its especially the visual aspect of modding. i m itching to see the community make better & more unique class units for all races or even learn to do itmyself.
dont get me wrong, triumph did an amazing job on AOW3s visuals otherwise but class units look like they ran out of time. would be really cool if they all had aesthetics more fitting to their race. take frostlings as the most recent example. their racial units looks absolutely stellar …. their class units not =(
imagine we had something like AOW3 leader editor for AOW3s units…
June 14, 2015 at 08:12 #210903That’s why it should be kickstarter style. There are going to be a number of enthusiasts willing to pay for early access and probably an ocean of people who just want some free modding tools.
For me the reason it’d be worth $1000 is I’d probably spend that on games in the next year anyway but I’d rather spend it on customizing a game I already like instead of wasting lots of time trying every new 4X that comes out.
What I’d like to do with mod tools is emulate MoM: Add Dark Elves, make the Underground more like a Myrran plane, make all Draconians fly, add more resource buildings like mithril & adamantium, enable heroes to cast spells on same turn as leader, etc.
Potentially with the additional money they could add the necessary staff to focus on mod tools. Or, the community could build at least the editors if Triumph would share their data storage scheme and 3D model formats.
Triumph has been really communicative and supportive of other community feedback, so it’s puzzling why we don’t get much response about this when it’s such a popular request.
June 14, 2015 at 11:49 #210928My finances are a bit “stretched” right now. So I am holding off buying anything in the summer sale. A good deal on the expansion though I’d snatch up.

i see it very similar. considering how much money some other hobbies grown up men have cost …. $1000 isnt that much considering how much fun one can have with AOW3.
if the modding tools are idiot friendly i d be with you with $1000. but if its stuff that only pro s can use unfortunately i wouldnt get much use out of em, so i d be in the $300-$500 “merely supporting the scene” corner.
i just fear we re in a minorty. some people already see expansion packs for $10-$20 a ripoff , despite having 100s of hours of fun with the content they provide.

To be honest, I think eternal lords was fully worth the price. Ive played Necromancers a number of times and think that the new specialisations are fantastic so are the new races. I played golden realms at a friends multiple times and found it adds some ok things- hobbits, a dwelling, a few more items and creatures ok specializations. I don’t consider it to be worth 60& of eternal lords value though.

Agreed. If you consider cost/hour, gaming is by far my cheapest hobby. I would have paid 10x the cost of eternal lords without blinking. Compare it to a movie, like 12 bucks for 2 hours of entertainment.
And aall you Mac/Linux fence sitters, this is your chance! Steam is the way to go.
June 18, 2015 at 18:47 #211878So, today’s the Daily Deal for the Age of Wonders Franchise on Steam.
If you wanted to purchase the game during the Summer Sale, now’s the time
June 18, 2015 at 19:58 #211896Just getting the expansion right now 🙂
June 18, 2015 at 22:59 #211936It’s now 33% off for the Eternal Lords.

There is the cost of computer hardware still – a GPU and SSD especially are worth it.
June 19, 2015 at 13:12 #212024I make the most out of the steam sales but when it comes to AoW3 it is the one game that I don’t want to buy when it costs less than its maximum price^^
I made sure to buy everything for a friend of mine before the sales started…
June 20, 2015 at 01:30 #212203Only 16.5 hours remaining. Barring a deal of the week, I don’t anticipate seeing this deal again until the December sale.
June 22, 2015 at 00:49 #212492I just purchased it on the Steam Sale, along with the Golden Realms expansion. A really good deal. Nice to be eased into the game with the new tutorial.
