Love the game so much. +1 on the comment:

I think Eternal Lords and 1.5 and 1.6 patches were steps in exactly the right direction. I would undoubtedly buy in an instant a new expansion similar to EL, in fact I’m throwing money at the screen with one hand and typing with the other 2.

Me too, moneys no matter, up the price if it helps you create an smarter AI. I’ll buy anything.

In AOW2:SM I never used random maps, in AOW3 they are really good. I still however lack the huge loads of really good hard scenarios beeing provided. If the editor is too complicated for the community to build from at large, please studio-develop and sell us all a huge package of king/emperor maps. (Or pay the Groll etc. for their time, loved his maps back in the days)

An integrated ladder system with scores from online games, statistics of prefered class/races and results I would love as well. Is there some combis I have never used, sure but I forget which, without a big data module build in.

We want the DARK ELVES (and I know for a fact that it is many of us and not just me!) – maybe when the high elves become too good or too evil they should be given the option of gaining dark elves or wood elves traits. The wood elf invisible cities in AOW were a fantastic strategic tool. And imagine if the the dark or wood elf territory became invisible so that their cities would suddenly be hard to locate.

We need an economy where mana can become a problem like gold can! Right now all mana-related spells, and improvement that we tend to get in the mid-late game are useless, because too much mana is available. MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO PUT A SORCERER IN THE SPOT BY DRAINING UP HIS MANA RESOURCES (maybe even more mana needed for upkeeping even more stuff?)

I love the necromancer but he should be the theocrat’s arci-nemesis not his designated victim!! Give some terrible weapons to NECRO so that he can effectively fight THEO.

Wow…people have covered most of the things I would have wanted to say so I’ll just add my small 2 cents worth.

Love the game as it is. Not many faults that I can really complain about.

Things I would like to see focused on:

Diplomacy options. Specifically, more ways that diplomatic relations can benefit both parties. Like trade agreements for instance. And trade routes between peaceful/allied cities. Research agreements which benefit both parties would be a plus as well. Mostly automatic things so the AI isn’t at a disadvantage in how/when to use these.

Random map generator. Almost perfect. Would like more dwelling types and resource types of course. Would not mind some random quests with some choices and options similar to what can be found in Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. Breadth is the key here. I’d like to see randomly generated maps that still throw surprises at me even after a long while. That would mean a lot more resources and NPC dwelling options but I’d be satisfied with even a bit more progress in this area.

City System. Don’t really want it to be more complicated because I think the AI likely has enough trouble as is.

AI. I’m sure everybody wants better strategic AI. Whatever magic you can do in this area, I’d love to see it. Specifically, I am not sure that the settler AI always picks the best places. Also…make the AI use things like Terraforming more. Or other world shaping spells.

Keep doing what you’re doing Triumph. You’ve made a great game and then systematically made it better and better. I have money to throw at the screen when you’re ready to sell new content!!

Please improve strategic AI! I find it uncompetitive even at highest difficult level. (unless I play 2 vs. 1) Or at least give it insane bonuses at highest difficult level like in Civ.

The RMG in AOE3 generates some of the most beautiful maps in any game I’ve seen. And I’m not just talking the art assets in the game (they help!), but the actual layout of them is grand.

The main embellishments I’d see for it is making sure that EVERYTHING can be available to it. I’ve heard, for instance, Master Shipyards can’t spawn via RMG.

I am really happy with how the game has evolved over the time and last patches.
I would love to see some more improvements on the AI.
More Races are always welcome and i will always pay for them! (DLC)
If it is possible to fix the multiplayer problems with firewalls to be more user-friendly this would be great!

And ONE last thing thats most important for me:
PLEASE, fot the love of gods, before you close the dev-door of AoW3 please give us (the community) ALL the edevelopment tools to build our own mods, buildings, units, etc…

Also, if you ever plan to user kickstarter for future expansions, DLCs etc. – I will support you for sure!

    great game, great devs!

    cheers,

Leader and class system: This was a huge draw for me. The fact I can play as magically inclined humans or industrious, master of magic style orcs makes me happy. Being locked into elves for a magical playstyle (particularly one as unsubtle and humanesque as “apply flame”), or otherwise having an enticing strategy limited to a faction I don’t like the look or lore of has driven me away from other games.

Main races: I don’t want to see more races added. Perhaps some cultural variation on the current races, like nomad humans, could be nice, but I’m worried it would come with dark elves. And dark elves dial elven unnecessary specialness up well beyond the toxic dosage.

Magic System and Research: If I had designed this from scratch, there would be seperate research pools with their own spellbook pages for class spells, class empire upgrades and all specialisation abilities, which would allow for more situational abilities to be added to the book without the risk of blocking important research. It’s not likely to happen, but I’d like to at least test it as a mod. I also find expansion specialisations inorganic compared to the elemental spheres and explorer/expander. I can imagine fireball in a world without a grid and unit tiers, not so swap locations.

Diplomacy: I don’t make use of this feature, outside of vassal states, which are hugely fun. More ability to request specific aid (like, liberate city [city_name] on our behalf) would be great.

Exploration/Sites/Dwellings: I love the vanilla sites, but want more. I understand the tradeoff between variety and user-friendly recognisability in sites, but I’d love to have thousands of these, both immediately visible and only detected via true sight or coming within one hex. Why should every place of firey magic look the same, when we could have enormous burned trees and doorless towers of solid coal and hills of pyrite, and beaches of ash? I’d pay more than I paid for the base game for a site variety pack.

Strategic and Tactical Combat: Tactical combat is the greatest strength of the game. Strategic combat feels a bit content light. Perhaps something like extra regeneration for units that use half or no strategic movement could spice things up?

Maps: Are wonderful. It’s nice to be able to see all the fantastic sites in the game, and there is some advantage to be had by engaging your foes on terrain that favours ranged troops or pikeneers or cavalry (ranged troops like any map with pits, pikemen love forests etc. I’d like it if wall climbing troops could climb over small rocks and obstacles, but this is a minor quibble at best.

Presentation: The graphics are often amazing. The graphics for halflings and warbreeds are … also present.

Fantasy setting: I’d like more information. Every race seems kind of monocultural, which isn’t great. I’d like to hear about schisms in orcish faiths, or about individual elven houses, and their standing both in elven society and with people outside that society. I’d also like flavour text for cosmic happenings.

Level Editor and Modding: The former is perfunctory. The latter would be worth more than gold to me.

More units in a stack. Less micromanaging, more aggressive AI from the start. Diplomacy needs to be more open to the human player when he’s ahead. Why an AI with one city still wants war is beyond me. More emphasis on solo play and less on multiplayer.

Stop trying to nickel and dime us with DLC. I NEVER buy any DLC or most expansions. If you can’t give it to me in ONE game then I’m not going to give it to you in others.

AOW I was your best game but it didn’t have all the features I liked (random maps and buy point system for pvp) So after a bit (when onsale) I got Shadow Magic. You killed it though for me when you took away flying for wraiths and I can’t remember if they didn’t have pass wall either. At any rate it ruined the game for me.

Be more realistic about what units can do instead of listening to the low population of your multiplayer crowd for balance sake. One of the greatest things about MOM (Master of Magic) was it DIDN”T have BALANCED races. You’re losing more sales because of multiplayer than you think. I used to buy your games upon release now I just wait for the sales.

I would have liked to have seen a spot for customization. I LOVE the amount of options you give the player to play the game the way they want to before they even start. It’s one of my favorite parts of the game and I have lots of favorite parts. Any improvements in that area are always welcomed by me.

Think this is my first post by the way, just wanted to say I love the game and I’m impressed with this company so far. Weekly updates during development? That was refreshing.

I just have one big concern at the moment – I’d like class units of a given race to fit more with that race’s cultural/visual aesthetic. I’m not sure if that’s improving Presentation(Since it’s primarily visual), Main Races (They get brushed aside for Class units), or Class System (Stifles the main races).

Other than that… can we get a Tigran campaign?

Oh yeah… and more fun enemy AI, especially on the easier difficulties, would be appreciated. More active-but-derp opponents would be nice, as would a more dynamic experience in general.

Also – more outfits (And race-customized outfits!) for the heroes. Tigran Sorcerer Robe 3 is really awesome, and it’s a shame that nothing else has that much visual care/distinction (And ONLY Tigran Sorcerers can wear that outfit)

I honestly gave everything a ‘I strongly enjoy this’ or ‘I enjoy this,’ to be perfectly honest. For what could be improved, I said that for most, I would love to see more work put into them or I had no opinion, not so much that it’s bad, but you guys have done amazing jobs on everything so far. I figure that those are the areas that I would love to see more work on, and you guys have done amazing work on everything so far, so I figure that anything you work on will be awesome,

Admittedly, I’m a triumph fanboy, so I’m biased, but you guys are the best game company I know about. Seriously. You listen to our points, you explain why something won’t work, you give fair prices for everything, and you take our opinions on balance into account. Blizzard could learn a thing or two from you guys.

Stop trying to nickel and dime us with DLC. I NEVER buy any DLC or most expansions. If you can’t give it to me in ONE game then I’m not going to give it to you in others.

What? How is Triumph nickel and diming? This game has been out a year, and there have been only two expansion with a crapton of content. They don’t overcharge us for what we pay for, and they are really good at delivering what they promise. Compared to Civilization V and things like Evolve with in-game purchases, this game is a bargain for Expansions and DLC. Also, it’s hard to add everything at the beginning. Simply put, if they release a good game at the beginning, as they did here, it allows for them to add in more features that the community looks for without having to force other people to pay extra for things they don’t want.

    #212713

I believe they should bring back the Lizardmen as Major Race so it can have Lizardmen vs Draconians. The Lizardmen and the Nomads should be a DLC.

But you are completely right, if some person should say that triumph is nickel and diming that person might got lost on his way to the EA games forums, that is like 2 streets further on the industrial part of town, not the artistic grandmasters street. My other request is simply more: More of the awesome art, races, specializations, themed sites, and the multi-player options that make this the go to 4x for myself and my friends.

    Hell yeah! +1

There is nothing about improving tha AI…

I thought the same but I decided it’s included in “World Map Army Strategies” because that’s where the AI needs to learn the most.

manual pvp battles in PBEM mode.

I think AOW3 is a pretty complete game in most aspects. In general I’m very pleased with what the devs have done with it. The AOW games seem to be evolving nicely from one to the next and I think Triumph is striking a nice balance between keeping what was good and trying new things. To fans of the previous games AOW3 should still feel like an AOW game and the changes that were made all seem to have improved the game.

The negative exception to this for me personally would be the lore/story/campaign part. I understand it’s hard to explain (lore-wise) why certain races from the previous games did not make the cut and then in some cases come back again out of nowhere.

The way the campaign was structured now did hurt the overall quality, I would say. Instead of one big campaign we now got two pretty small ones initially, with 2 smaller ones added through the expansions. Together these may add up to a decent length, but it leaves us with several parts that feel very disjointed to me. Add to that the lack of a clear ending and it all fealt very unsattisfying.

I also had a feeling that the campaign levels themselves lacked interesting interactions like you had in Shadow Magic. That game had quite a bit of scripted events with references to the overall story and lore of Age of Wonders and in some instances gave crucial information on what’s been happening (see for instance the Meandor 2 level).

The writing also seemed to be lacking from much of the humor that was present in Shadow Magic.

All in all this meant campaigns that were less epic, more detached from lore, less fun and very unsatisfying due to the open ending we have right now.

Completely unrelated to this: I am still missing descriptions/bio’s of hero units in the game and I’m still disappointed you did nothing with iHK’s idea of letting the community write these for you. How hard can it be to add some descriptions written by fans that you deem to be of sufficient quality? Encourage community participation instead of shooting it down!

If you only added multiple mods support, all the different little things people want would be added by the community. Plus it will make the game last for years without the need for you to add extra content. And if you make it compatible with Steam workshop, even better.

New units, races, classes, spells, all added by passionate modders.

Please oh please, mod support should be priority one IMO.

I also forgot to mention some things modding could do: Improved AI, bug fixing, new game play features/mechanics, UI improvements, new dwellings/quests/events, total conversions, new buildings..
And the best part, mods are OPTIONAL, if you don’t like a mod, you don’t download it.

This is what people should be looking for, not some measly new race add-on.. come on people look at the big picture! Modding can give you all that if it’s done right by the developers. Civ V, Civ IV. Sins of a Solar Empire are good examples of good moddable games.

Survey done, to go into more detail I marked City Economy, Diplomacy, and Multiplayer as the main trouble areas for myself.

City / Economy: I’m not really looking for it to be a whole lot more complicated, my main gripe is that excess industry doesn’t roll over. The way it is now if you want to build something that takes 100 it doesn’t matter if your 50 short or 1 short, its going to be two turns either way, which makes sense, but then if you had that 99 industry a turn you just threw away 98 of it because none of it carries over to the next project. As a result I often find myself doing quick math before getting production building to make sure it actually does anything for me, and the answer is often that no it does not.

It just seems a shame because all the other upgrades feel like they have more value as they behave dynamically. Imagine if you wanted to research something that took 300 and you where getting 149 a turn, and you lost the extra 148 from turn three, that would bite!

And finally it might making lower tier units more intriguing, being able to make two or three t1 in a single turn over one t3 would be tempting. Then again mass spam of any unit gets old fast so maybe not. Perhaps a scaling upkeep cost for every additional unit of a given type?

Diplomacy: Not much to say here, the AI just feels really predictable, as in no matter what its going to declare war on you within a few turns of meeting if it has a larger army, which it almost always does on higher difficulties.

Not really sure if its a problem that can / should be solved, if I want diplomacy I should probably go play CK2 instead, but on king and above I feel like sending out scouts is suicide, because if I meet someone before I’m ready to fight its game over.

Multiplayer: I would love a compromise between Classic and Simultaneous, or barring that not having three second input lag in Simultaneous would be really nice. It’s not a deal breaker, but all the same.

So that’s my feedback, I adore the game and will happily keep buying expansions for as long as you keep making them regardless of any of the above ever getting touched. Thanks for all the lazy afternoons of gaming that keep somehow turning into late nights!

The game is great so far, some issues with the diplomatic systems (mainly with the AI) otherwwise i would like to see some more choice in the city screen.

every one hates HoMaM 4 but what i really liked about that game was that not all units were available for all cities. if we could have some building that are exclusive from each other that would be cool:

“do i want to take the elite spear units or rather the stronger archer type? ”

but well thats just a suggestion, it would make this superb game only so much better.

There is one thing though i would really really wish:

Make a less humanoid race. I know that would be a lot work but im tired of fantasy games giving me the choice of “human, Human with long ears, small Human, smaller human, ugly human and here : Blue human, Cathead Human and scaly Human.

currently i prefer the goblins as they are the least “human” but its still the same in Green basically.

Be brave and make a race thats different, you had the Shadow demons before so they would be the most likely choice, but something else is fine.

I know its a lot of work but its certainly worth it, visually, stylistic and fluff wise.

In the end. I can only say: i want a little more of anything if the above is not an option. The game is superb already so ill nearly buy anything that gets added content wise *shrug*

Best release and support in a long time from a “major” studio (i know you arent EA or something, but you are also already known) hope to see not only one more addon but two or three in the same size of Eternal Lords, keep up the good work 😀

As others have mentioned, it seems unrealistic that a town’s excess production once a project is completed would be completely wasted. As if, once a temple is constructed, the excess bricks are just thrown in the ocean? Perhaps some portion of those materials could be used for the next building project, maybe 50%. Even 10% would be a nod toward realism.

With Research there is welcome flexibility in the sense that towns with laboratories can focus efforts on research if you need a few points to complete a research project.

I like the idea of Shadow Demons becoming a non-humanoid race to play. The units had good diversity, and would play well into the E.L. campaign’s concept of dimension portals.

    #213058

Be brave and make a race thats different, you had the Shadow demons before so they would be the most likely choice, but something else is fine.

My only racial dislike is that the Draconians seem like red Humans. I mean it’s justified lorewise and makes sense that they evolved to be more Humanoid to try and avoid persecution, but imho this is the DRAGON race – perfect chance to make them really assymetric.

If it were down to me, I would have made them more Dragony, more mana dependent, and not very Humanoid at all.

To be specific, their battering ram would have been the Crusher (like in AoW:SM) and I would have made it a baby warbreed (so regeneration at base with regrowth at gold) – and I would have made it basically a tier 1.5 Infantry/battering ram, and expensive to boot.

Then, I would have brought back the slither, basically a fast moving ball of teeth (graphics would be like the Node Serpent).

For the none heavy hitters (i.e. non Crusher) lesser flying at silver then true flying at gold.

Low defence all round, high attack, low hp except for the Crusher.

I would have brought back the Hydra somewhere, probably via racial governance (like Trolls for Goblins) who would have regrowth ofcourse, swim (not fly) and have tonnes of HP, and some form of double strike/spread attack and ofcourse total awareness (cannot be flanked) and fire vulnerability (unique for Dracs) but high resistance (Dracs here would have had low to average Resistance).

basically, make them really animalistic, and emphasise the flying aspect, so as to differentiate them from the Lizards!

I would have made the Lizards closer to what the current Draconians are, but amphibious (i.e. relatively Humanoid).

The option to customize the placement of units in the stack. Its a minor annoyance but having my infantry in the back row behind an Archer/Support is a little irksome.

    Current breakdown is

    1st slot: Central
    2nd slot: Left Central
    3rd slot: Right Central
    4th slot: Left flank
    5th slot: Right flank
    6th slot: Back Central

Simply letting us click and drag units and than checking a box allowing us to lock them into that slot would be nice.
