Yes esvath of course I saved him =P But yeah, started a game today and sure enough, you guys are right, the AI’s get slotted before you can choose, so if your custom character ends up as an AI that game, you’re SOL. I noticed my list was missing a custom leader, but it was fine since I didn’t want to play him this game, and first AI I meet in game… is that custom leader.

It’s really quite annoying and I don’t understand why the AIs aren’t selected AFTER the player(s).

    +1

Currently in PvE, all defensive combat enchantments ((Poison Domain, Thorn Walls (whatever it’s called), etc)) are useless and they get dispelled as soon as war begins. All the CP you’ve spent casting them, and mana spent maintaining them would’ve been better off casting summons.

City buffs are useful during peacetime, but once war begins, wave goodbye to them too.

I don’t have a solution to this problem (though line of sight requirement would be a great start) but the way it works now just make global enchantments and city enchantments useless. It even puts classes with a non-permanant effect ultimate spell at a disadvantage. For instance, as a Druid I cast mine and my units gain floating forever. Go ahead and dispell it, I’m good for the moment. The Sorcerer on the other hand, who gains 50 CP, needs to maintain it at all times to gain the benefit.

Kinda wish this hadn’t been brought up, now it’ll be far more annoying to bring catapults along.

That’s what I’m doing now – re-downloading the game from GoG. Last reinstall was just that – a reinstall of the original DL I have from when the game came out. 1.9 gigs is a lot for slow internet speeds like mine, so this better work haha If not I give up.

AoW3.exe seems broken, since that’s the message I get after the launcher tries to connect to the server. No clue why. Guess I’ll try reinstalling for the 3rd time /sigh Should I ONLY DL the newest patch from GoG or both? I should assume the newer patch includes the first one.

Let me know if you GoG players get this working – I can’t.

Anyone else having issues getting the game to run after this patch? I DL’d patch off GoG, installed, started up launcher, get “connecting to server” then boom, “can’t connect”. Worse, I can’t exit the launcher in any way, shape, or form. Even trying to close it in Task Manager does nothing. I have to reboot my comp to get out of it. So I uninstalled the game, reinstalled both the game and patch, and same issue. It ran last night, this morning it won’t =/

Where are you getting the percentage chance to summon units with these spells? For all I know it’s 50% chance of the Carrion Bird. It sure seems that way most games. Getting T4 units with this spell is nice, but I get them so rarely, I would be MORE than happy to make it so the spell only gave you T3 units – because at least then I’d know I wasn’t wasting so much mana (and FAR more importantly, SP).

Just tried it, and nope, game loaded fine. I wonder if this had to do with the original release version (since I’m on 1.09 now). Regardless, thanks for taking the time to look into it!

I disagree with just about everything said against the “exploiters” here. Not going through each item line by line – not worth my time. “Minusthedrifter” makes enough good points.

Hero + 2 melee/damage takers +3 ranged – can be any combination of actual units.

All my heroes tend to be ranged, so it’s 4 ranged, 2 melee. Mid to late game I’ll have stacks of just Catapults to add with the normal stacks during combat.

If you want super easy, once they burn their empire down and bolt to the Throne city, just stick a bunch of stacks next to them and wait them out, as they run out of gold/mana and their units start disbanding.

I had this happen two games ago, where I was about to wipe them out in one big fight, reinforcements were on the way, and then my neighbor declared war on me so I had to send the reinforcements to the new front. I ended up not being able to take out the throne city of the first AI for some time, and in the meantime, his army started disbanding, so when I did get around to it, it was 1/3 the size it HAD been. Crazy.

Usually I’m doing good if I can summon 1 Horned God every 2 turns, later on. This of course assumes I’m using Casting Points on NOTHING else. So in 10 turns my entire empire can make 5 Horned Gods if I do nothing else with mana. Later on, how many T4 can a Theocrat, or Warlord, or Dreadnaught’s entire empire build in 10 turns?

I dunno, 2k pop still sounds rather low to me. Course maybe that’s because I like the Archdruid and his Fertile Domain spell!

Would Tombles be willing to grace us with his presence to comment on either of these two issues (T3 spell summoning T2, and Dedicated units in the summon pools)? Be nice to know if it’s “doubt we’re changing either”, “yeah needs to be fixed” or “some of us like it, some of us don’t, can’t say if either will ever change”.

Well, if you want to remain Good, it would make sense you have to let the guards go. I agree is sucks to lose the exp, but that’s the price you pay for RPing Good I guess. My only issue with the alignments is 98% of the time, it really doesn’t matter what you are – good, neutral, evil, whatever. I tend to end up Slightly Good, which means I can’t use the Archons, and Evil Summoned units don’t like me (seriously, why am I even summoning Evil units… I really dislike that “feature”), but that’s about it.

Fairly sure this is a known issue. You’ll also see sometimes, even though there ARE entrances between the two, they are all grouped super close together.

Welcome to seeing the downside of having to summon your T4s (like the Archdruid) instead of building them in all your cities.

AI is making cities everywhere, I think the only restriction is not making them in the sphere of influence of another city.

Even this isn’t true. The AI can come and rebuild a razed city INSIDE your domain. It’s crazy.

in reply to: DEVS: Please comment on AI Cheating! #80893

I agree, the level of AI cheats given is just there to cover up a really really bad AI. Yes AI’s are supposed to cheat as you choose higher “difficulties” (which is a joke of a word, the AI isn’t more difficult, it just cheats more), but it’s a bit ridiculous in this game. Part of that is the T4 spam the AI likes, regardless of this new patch that was supposed to tone that down. Part of it is that they toss out Settlers at mind-boggling rates. Part of it is that the AI has no understanding of domain borders, and how they should view it as an act that will piss off whoever they do it to, so the only way to stop it is to declare war which gives YOU a penalty with everyone else. Shit’s broken, yo.

The only real solution is to have all nearby AIs at war at all times, so they stop sending Settlers into your land. It’s not like they are going to attack you anyway lol

That may be true, but I’m not a min-max type – I’m an average player. The AI needs improvement, there can’t be any argument there. Saying the top players can’t be pleased isn’t a valid excuse for not fixing what needs fixing.

I would love to, but I can’t sit at the computer in one sitting long enough to do so. (That’s something I certainly give them points for – you can walk away from the comp at any point during the turn, even tactical combat, and come back 30 minutes later with no crashes, memory-leak lag, or other issues) Regardless, that has nothing to do with the AI being no challenge.

    Fanboi1234

If you can’t play the AI at the highest difficulty mode and have *some* challenge, then the game is borked. I’m tired of all these special handicaps you people keep saying we need to give ourselves to provide any sort of challenge. Either the game is too easy, or it isn’t. Right now the game is waaaaaaaay easy.

I’m not mad, because I’m hoping Triumph fixes this and I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt for now.
