When you click on an treasure site you can see at the start of it’s description wether it’s “explored” or “unexplored”, but that’s only possible when it’s in visual range. Or any other way to set a map up. Like give player 2 a City and strong army to start with, while you start with a settler and weak army. etc.
Because entangling strike. Because lightning strike. Because summon boar.

I’ve considered the fact that convert/charm etc all only apply until the end of battle. That’s still very powerful in battle, but I don’t know if Theocrats and to a lesser extent Rogues can deal without it completely.
Still it might be better for them then less effective charms/converts/befriend animal, because how viable are those skills when the success chance drops significantly.
A change is needed though. Of that I’m sure!
I liked the idea of improving the skill of convert/charm/BA when researching a certain skill. Most of all because that makes theocrat heroes less interesting when your not a theocrat. Still good, but not the best out there.
You could also consider convert/charm/BA until end of battle and keep the current effectiveness of those skills, but add extra efficiency to it when bard/evangelist/eldritch animal is researched. This way the skill becomes strong, but your not going to keep the units you converted. Still it’s viable to use converting units as converting a unit can be a tipping point in a equal fight…. or in a doomed fight. Converting 1-2 units can give you the win.
Just a thought.
If your sticking to the proposed changes then I’m fine with you guys picking the one you think is best. Either reducing the effectiveness of the skills or converted/charmed etc units are only until battle converted.
p.s. What happens to the units that are only converted until the end of battle?
You’ve outdone yourself on this one, but I’m not sure I’m curious if enough people itnterested in this kind of mod games. I’ll help you hope.

Just to contribute by saying that I appreciate every bit of work you guys put in balancing the game, for me personally most of all PBEM as I don’t play multiplayer.
I don’t really have much game time so I’m going to refrain from actively discussing and helping balancing the game else I won’t be able to play it anymore;)
Either way.. Necro’s are OP that’s best I can say and I was under the impression that Flash Bang didn’t work as it should work in your mod. Text said it was still a single hex target.
I’m going to run it in a hosted game via the battefield.
This will be a special game though. Only Sorcs,Warlords and Dreadnoughts allowed so it won’t really cover the big issues, but it will be run with your mod.
Well you are not a dick, but I certainly try to avoid playing Necromancers.
The game allows Necros to play like this so you are not doing anything wrong.
Necros are so broken that it’s far from funny though. I don’t enjoy abusing mechanics that are broken. I’ve never enjoyed that in my entire gaming career(20 year career ;)) and Necromancers are just that.
I know that because of this I will never be the best, but that’s fine with me. I don’t mind losing( I certainly do prefer winning) if it was due to a good game.
Losing vs a Necromancer ‘abuser’ is never a good game in my book though.
Since we are in a game together were you just beat Mauve and you had Centurion on turn 20 I hope you come and kill me soon, but I might as well just surrender as it’s gg anyways.

It’s cool that you are making Let’s plays for this game, but the difficulty on knight suggests it won’t be very interesting for me and I’m afraid for most here.
Please do go on though. It’s still promoting the game and you’ll improve by playing! Sometimes I wish I had the tools, but most of all time to do this.
To start off I’d like to mention that I won’t be participating in the next duel tournament. I’m not really into duels.
Still I’m supporting a PBEM balance mod. Not only for the tournament, but also for other PBEM games.
I take the CIV5 community as an example. Where the online community organised a steamgroup (NO QUITERS) most of all to get rid of quiters and bad behaviour. Pretty much what we have with http://www.the-battlefield.com/aow3. They also use the No Quiters Mod which balances the game better for multiplay. Well for this game we need to balance PBEM quite a bit.
Right now it’s a rat race who can convert/ghoul/charm/seduce the most units in the least time. gg he wins. Economy has become totally irrelevant.
Personally I’d remove all charming/converting, but that would completely wreck the balance as well so that needs a lot more thought. Necros can’t live without ghouling, but if other classes didn’t have it anymore and Necros can only ghoul with death bringers it might become ok’ish.
Less treasure sites: Not very enthousiastic as it’s part of the entertainment the game gives. Then again I understand why you suggest it. You could as well lower the loot they give?
max lvl 15 heroes. Sure! Easy to implement with the rules.
Larger maps for duels. Well I don’t play duels so I’m not going to give my opinion on it:D
I’m really glad you got good sales out of this game as you do really deserve it.
Masterpiece it is and besides you guys/girls have always been really good with your communication toward the community.
Still… I’m really bummed… really bummed that such a great game ‘only’ reached over 500k sales. This game really doesn’t get the credit and attention it should have.

I tend to agree with this.
Most of the time you see powerleveling heroes that can charm/convert/ghoulify. Since that’s the easiest way too quickly get a powerful army.
Allthough I’m a bit lost how warlords are doing atm since producing units seems to hardly matter.

It means you were really enjoying yourself, but the bad part about it is that those hours seemed like 30 minutes.

I never finished a single campaign mission so I’m a true random map player and right now most of all a PBEM player, but yes… this game is amazing and awesome.
Indeed nice to read a post like this so long after the game actually was released. Actually this game probably didn’t get the recognition is deserves in the state it is right now, but alas a lot of games have to endure that faith I’m afraid. Just like many games get a huge playerbase while they really ain’t that great.

I haven’t really read through this thread, but as a Theocrat seeing a Dreadnought is always an “oh crap” moment for me.
Necro is also bad news seeing a Dreadnought, but bone collectors can hurt them if they reach them that is.
p.s. Has anyone ever had a AD game where you want to summon Spiders/Serpents to evolve, but after 17 turns and 14 turns of casting Summon Wild Animal you end up with 2 serpents and 2 stacks of Dire penguins/wargs and boars. (I don’t have 2 stacks since I use them as fodder, but you get the point.)
Back on original topic – and with a tip if I may: One thing that puzzled me is why you kept an Elven city as vassal forever. With just +1 domain extension it would’ve had a Knowlegde Vault in its domain I believe.
I checked about every turn if / and wondered why this was still a vassal and not yours already This could have boosted your research significantly early on in game I think. Hope to play some more in the future!
BTW I’m not going make it with my Elven Sorc against the Frostling Druid – we’re the only ones left in that game of yours now

That wasn’t a good move indeed, but to be honest that was a pretty poor game for me overall. Even for my standards! I was always running out of money which was the main reason I left it there, but you are right. Regardless of money issues I should’ve prioritised that city.
In the game where you wiped me of the map when i was playing a Human Theo I actually had a pretty decent start, but just got completely outplayed by you, which wasn’t hard mind you. As I didn’t use any scouts and let my leader happily get slaughtered by your stacks. Since that game I actively scout!
The Frostling AD had quite an awfully strong army allready. When I was slacking and noobing UG and I noticed him Charming an Fallen Angel and another T4 unit and that was quite early in the game. He completely stomped me, but like I said I was in really poor condition.

Good grief. Positioning your leader just in range for an enemy scoundrel to hit and return the hit every turn with a healer hero behind him to get maximum XP.
I’m glad my mind doesn’t even come up with these kind of ideas. If PBEM really comes down to this I’d better stop playing completely, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by that when some people get lvl 15 heroes within 20-30 turns.
A change to the XP system is a must if winning a PBEM game boils down to being the best abuser of the XP system. Ridiculous stuff.
