    Great collection of notes about upcoming features. I’m elated about everything I’m reading and seeing. I’m most impressed that Triumph is really digging into many of the ideas floating around during AoW3’s development cycle. My quick read is that the changes are going to add a pretty awesome dimension to the strategic gameplay.

    Can’t wait to hear.

    I would be happy for AoW4 – so many cool ideas have been kicked around for the next installment in the series.

    I would also love to see a new 4X-style game in a completely original setting. I’d happily settle for a sci-fi planetary game (we have waaaay too many space 4X games right now).

    Regardless, I can’t wait. AoW3 is still, for me, the best designed and executed 4X game of the past many, many, years. And the dev’s have an awesome relationship with the community as well. Getting these two things aligned is a remarkable achievement.

    Here’a another one:

    “AoW_TerrainLogic: settings > racial bonuses” identifies terrain bonuses for races. But where is the effect of the bonus itself described/determined?

    All damage is death damage 🙂

    Snarky comments aside – I think there needs to be a balance in the number of damage channels between thematics and good gameplay. If you get too many damage channels, it gets increasingly less likely that a given match of units will have weaknesses or resistances to a particular channel, which starts to normalize everything. Essentially, too many channels and suddenly the different channels are NOT as special or unique anymore.

    Curiously, I never exactly viewed “spirit” damage as necessarily good or holy – it’s just something that directly attacks your life force. So in that way, thematically it can be both evil or good, holy or death, depending on who is dealing the damage 🙂
