I don’t see any reason for making brand new game in AoW universe. AoW3 has a lot of content but still can have MUCH more, it doesn’t feel “complete” to me at least.
Game engine is outstanding, visuals are gorgeous, runs on pretty much any mid-range rig with decent FPS, has destruction, great effects and animations. Design of some objects and units is fantastic. Has very few bugs which are even hard to spot. Balance still needs a bit polishing. It doesn’t look outdated in any possible way so there’s not much room for improvements. I’d rather stick with it than working on something new and spend awful amount of time fixing, ridding it of potential bugs to bring it to working order.
I dunno, but all points considered game literally’s begging for a new expansion, plus ending of Eternal Lords seems pretty much as a cliffhanger to me…
I feel the same way. I wonder, with our constant “whining” if the devs sometimes see us as spoiled children who never have enough of anything. But this game is so great that I feel it would be a shame that so much content might still be added to raise it to perfection, and maybe now it never will.
Don’t get me wrong, mod support is great and there are indeed some terrific modders doing an astouding work, but that will never be the same as official content.
As for the Manticore I could definitely see a reason for changing the fur colour too. One would suspect that Frostlings for example to selectively breed light furred variants with thicker fur to better suit their particular climate.
Maybe this is too much to ask, but I think it would be utterly cool if the frostling manticore had spotted white fur like a snow leopard: http://cdn.zmescience.com/wp-content/uploads/ArrayArrayArrayArray/ArrayArray/Snow-LeopardArray.jpg
All units look great, but the change to the high elf shamans is astounding. Did you retouch the texture, or is it a game asset?
I hope some of your skin upgrades could make their way into the official game since they are indeed improvements.
Tibbles, that looks nothing short of amazing. If I may ask a question (from total modding ignorance, mind you), some of the hairpieces look to me very similar to some hero hairstyles. are they? and if so, are all pieces of equipment freely attachable and detachable between units? or are there any limitations?
Frostling harps are still looking, meh… Sorry.
You’re right, that’s why she said she’s still working on them.
Simply amazing 🙂
That’s some outstanding work, thanks! Now, if I may add a humble petition, can anything be done to the bard wigs? please, for the sake of our sanity :-p
Please add detachable bard wigs, so my eyes can stop bleeding.
What is all this gnashing of teeth about no more expansions? I mean, given it’s been more than a year since release I guess we probably won’t see many more expansions for this game (I hope maybe one more), but how is this related to the modding stuff? is it something the devs said?
I know everything costs, and stuff, but really… are there any discounts planned on Steam? 20 is way too much for so little content.
Just so I can get an idea of what such a fair price would be, could you please provide any examples of comparable (in size and content) expansions or DLCs with a more sensitive price tag?April 23, 2015 at 15:21 in reply to: Two races I wish to see- if Triumph makes another expanion(s) for AoW3 #187129
I never thought the stablished lore posed any difficulty in bringing old races back. So Nimue drowned all lizardmen? you know what? it seems some of them managed to survive unnoticed after all. Maybe they were hidden, or they were out on weekend, or, you know, a wizard did it.
Mechanically that is a different issue. But still, I think lizardmen can be made different enough to stand apart from other races. Apart from swimming, Lizardmen could have a big-beasts army approach, with dinosaurs and giant turtles, sort of a Bio-dreadnought so to speak.
I’d love to see a Warlock class, summoning all sorts of infernal denizens from imps to balrogs. Although in all honesty, I can’t think of a way to make it different from the sorcerer.
Thanks guys, that’s a lot of valuable info 🙂
@svmariscal: Sure, it technically only simulates lan … but since the concern of the thread opener was that there wouldn’t be aow III servers available some day, it basically offers the same solution to the problem as a lan mode would …
Yes but the point is that the LAN option still requires a remote server to authenticate, and if the server is not there, well…
This is more or less what happened to Neverwinter Nights, you had multiplayer available either over the internet or in a LAN, but both options required a first connection of all clients to Bioware servers to work. Long story short, Bioware went out of business and poof, there went your multiplayer.
Fortunately in this case there was a happy ending, there was a last patch that circumvented the online authentication, so now you still get an error when trying to launch your multiplayer game, but still works nevertheless.
Hopefully, should this be the case for AoW, the devs will implement a similar workaround.
Am I misunderstanding something?
There already is the lan option – just not run by Triumph.
Hamachi works doesn’t it?
So, there’s your “immortality option”?
Anyway, I sincerely doubt a pirate would go to the trouble of posting here.
Well, not really. Hamachi is more the opposite of this. If you have an old game which only has LAN multiplayer, Hamachi allows you to create a virtual LAN over the web, so you can play making the game believe everybody is connected to a local network when they’re not.
Sounds more like vSabre just wants to get away with buying a single copy of the game and letting all his friends play off it – don’t bother with him. Legit players should never have a problem logging in to play online, especially when they have no problems creating the very account they would need in order to bitch and moan. I’m buying my son a copy of the expansion, so this guys lost sale is not a lost sale at all.
Well it seems to me you have no proof that vSabre is acting as a cheapskate, beyond that “it sounds like it”. The thing is, if I can use myself as an example, that some of us are concerned that in the future the multiplayer option might be unavailable due to servers going down or the company simply dissapearing.
Maybe I am paranoid, but on the other hand this is one of the games you can find in GOG.com:
please look below the screenshot area, the part at the end labeled “Multiplayer Notice”. Well, there is this same notice on many of the games selling there, so the possibility of this happening is real. Of course, as mcmurdo said, maybe the devs will unlock that option later should the worse comes to the worst and the servers go down. But then again, maybe they won’t.
Is it a deal breaker? absolutely not, I have purchased two copies of the game and all expansions, for me and my wife, and I am enjoying it immensely. But I would be much more satisfied with that feature implemented.
Well, to be honest I’d also like the possibility of setting up a LAN game with no online activation. Not that I need it, our laptops are online most of the time, but I don’t know, maybe your connection is not reliable or you don’t have one at home or whatever. And plus, I still play all my favourite old games and for many of them the developer no longer exists; I’d like to think I’d be able to play AoW3 with my friends for many many years to come, even if the online servers are down.
What? It’s been like almost a FULL DAY since EL release and still NO NEWS of the third expansion, and instead of doing something about it you all go to celebrate? damn lazy devs…
Joking of course, have you all a very well deserved break 😉
PS: Just so you know, there is an AoW3 bundle at GOG to go with the release of EL, so I ended up purchasing EL for me and another full bundle for the wife. I hope my humble contribution helps to keep the AoW ball rolling to infinity and beyond.
Dark elves might merge perfectly with the spider theme, with spiderlings as T1 and a Spider Goddess as T4. That, and lizardmen, because I crave them and no, draconians are not lizardmen.
One still unused race I’d like to see are insectoids, but not in the shadow demon fashion; more some type of ant-like culture like the klackons from MoM.
And all my kudos to japanese inspired races, with tenchus, onis, kitsunes and whatever. But no anime. Ever. Please.
I think the coolest solution is having the necros corrupt conquered dragon peaks to produce bone dragons, same as they do with other races’ cities.
I am glad it’s not lizardmen, I still have hopes they will return as a playable race.
Not really related to this particular news, but I was wondering if the undead tigrans would look more like mummies instead of ghouls. Because that would be super cool.
First post here to support the goofy halflings. Maybe my point of view is not as popular as the contrary around here, but I for one am utterly sick of the “grim-dark-abandon-all-hope-twisted-world” fantasy trope (we already have lots of them, thanks a lot Games Workshop) and very much welcome the deceptive silliness of the halfling army.
Also, turd-flinging monkeys FTW!
