The Structures of Eternal Lords Part II

After the Structures of Frost and Darkness, now we’ll take a look at the second set of new locations for Eternal Lords.

Box of Cataclysm: The Box of Catacylsms is a new type of pickup. It lures players to pick it up with a nice pile of casting points as reward, but the player must also choose one of two cataclysms to unleash upon the world the following turn.  The choice of cataclysm is added to allow the player to choose something that is hopefully more harmful to his enemies than himself.  The choices are fully randomized.

Don’t open it! — After all these years, the Greeks are still suffering cataclysms after Pandora opened hers in the classical age!

Winter Lair: This is a winter themed variation of the Monster Lair, it will spawn stacks of Polar Bears, Yetis, and Dire Penguins to terrorize nearby locals.

Lost Library

This exploration site is designed to accompany the Ancient Ruins as a early to mid-game exploration site.  The reward for clearing the site is a skill unlock from the player’s Research book, with a small chance of a secret spell appearing. Skills that are unlocked are always off the beaten track; common skills such as casting point upgrades, unit unlocks and seafaring are not found in this obscure ancient Library.   When located in a cities ’domain, the city provides a knowledge bonus and makes possible the production of the Magic Academy. With this upgrade support units produced in the city receive +1 damage to ranged anad melee attacks and + 1 resistance.

Hmmm we said low level exploration site! Consider that Eldritch is some artistic freedom by the artist taking the TC screenshot 🙂

Well of Souls

An old Well draws necromantic energy to the surface. Drinking from the well will heal units, but the living will be transformed into ghouls.  Income +10 Mana +100 dead population when located in your domain.

Sphinx Temple

This Higher Level Exploration site is a monument dedicated to an ancient Sphinx lord. When cleared it gives high level items and +10 Mana +10 Gold and +10 Knowledge when located in the city’s domain.  As a city upgrade it has the Solar Spire, which gives pikemen +2 def and Blinding Aura. Units attacking a foe with Blinding Aura have a chance to get Blinded.

    So how will this effect non-necromancer players? Will there be a way to transform this structure into a well of life, like the Springs of life being able to transform back and forth between non and Necro’s? Also what about adding a unique structure for all the other classes out there? I mean why do the Necromancers get allot of the uniqueness out of this expansion? I know I know it’s all part of the grand opening for “Eternal Lords” for this topic to make since, but i hope there will be updates in the future for more uniqueness for other classes later on. =D

    P.S. PBEM is so awesome, I’m now able to take my turn at my own pace instead of quickies while playing in a game where others are waiting for you to click that turn button… =D

    Very nice! I like the new pickup ‘Box of Cataclysm’. Must be a nice surprise if you get two cosmic happenings that are both negative for your empire. That is the danger of opening the box!

    Love the tactical map of the Lost Library and the well as well (;P). Are these all the new land structures or are there still a few left to be revealed. There sure are many, most focusing on the necromancer and ice theme. Just wondering if these structures (and those of dev journal: structures – part one) are all of the land structures or if there is/are some not mentioned here. It could be conceived a fire themed visit structure is part of the expansion – an opposite of the Runestone of Cold Fury.

    Looking forward to see how the Reef Colony Dwelling and structures will spice up the waters in the game in next weeks dev journal.

    I have a bit of the same feeling. I assume it’s the nature of expansions to alter the theme of the game. Everything newly added – classes, races, skills, game mechanics etc. – is more “unique” and ground breaking than the vanilla game. Triumph did, however, a wonderful job of making the Halflings in Golden Realms unique, yet not overly present. Although you could argue that those Bountiful Melons, Flowers of solace and Lucky Cloverfields that pop up everywhere makes you wonder if the hobbits of Flowershire ever were near extinction. I really hope all races and classes, both old and new, will find a state of equilibrium over time. I applaud the continues efforts to make all races more unique and balance everything out. Just would like to seesome more “elven”, “dwarven”, etc. stuff in the future to balance everything out.

    These are fantastic. Awesome stuff!

    If ever you wanted to make a themed mini-DLC just built around more of these RMG structures, I think you’d have people lining up to buy.

    Perhaps a dozen or two new additions to the world – with more themes, TC maps, odd-ball quirks, defender lists, AI routines, roving mobs, special monsters, spell rewards, treasure items, “world abilities” and mystical city upgrades – oh yeah, I’d buy that.

    The game has been getting a lot of attention on the empire side (a good thing, very nice to see), but you could also take a small break from that path with a mini-DLC aimed at the early and mid-game adventuring aspects.

    It would be a “must have” for PBEM fans, that’s for sure.

    Or you can keep doing what you’re doing. That’s working out well too. 🙂

    I don’t think there is, actually, but the Dungeon Slaughter Pits upgrade is already a huge buff for infantry, and the Crystal Tree is also for *most* infantry. (Of course, not all Infantry are armoured, but the vast majority are)

    a manticore rider and 3 berserkers is considered mid level? i dont think im getting my neutral structures mixed up am i? compared to ancient ruins with a couple animals and an ogre that is hell to clear out.

    Get two cannons and an engineer and the manticore rider will get blown straight to hell before it even gets close. With some luck a berserker gets in the way, too. The rest is golem fodder.

    Yes, that is because ancient ruins is a low-level clearing side. Dungeons are significantly harder to clear, but not as hard as stuff like ancient ziggurat, forbidden sanctum etc .. which I consider high-level. (with the 1.5 patch (beta), the sanctum now also gives you spells that are actually worth the effort, which is great!)

    Ah, almost forgot: Looking forward to all the new clearing sites, even though I was hoping for a mythical city upgrade similar to enchanted armory which focusses on units with a certain trate instead of a certain type 😀

    if youre bringing cannons and golems into a dungeon youre probably clearing it out for the production bonus rather than slaughter pits. im just saying its a lot of effort for an upgrade that in many cases isnt any better than pillar of the stylites focus chamber or enchanted armory while being far more dangerous and rare.

    Crystal Tree is pretty rare. It never starts near me so it’s never been a major source of my infantry.

    There is a mid-high-end site that boosts produced Infantry and Monster units, and Summoned Monsters(not Infantry), within the domain of the city that it is built in.

    The ability is quite a nice one as well. 🙂

    Yes, it is, just found it in the other Structures of Eternal Lords one – gives Infantry and Monsters built/summoned at a city Fear Strike
